Thomas Arthur HIPKIN, son of Thomas HIPKIN (1848-1934) and Hannah MariaSMITH (c. 1849-1932), was born on 6 January 1894. He was baptised on 4 February 1894 in Honingham, Norfolk - parents Thomas (steward) and Hannah Maria. No service record for Thomas has been found. On his medal index card it shows he was in the Norfolk Regiment, Private 2611 and the Northamptonshire Regiment, Private 43455. On 26 February 1917 he was hospitalised with myalgia in the 31st Ambulance Train, Ward B, entrained at Bray and detrained at Rouen, and released to return to duty on 27 February b1917. He was on the South Lopham absent voters list, “43455, 2nd Bn. Northants”. He died on 2 March 1972. He had his estate probated on 29 June 1972 in Ipswich, Suffolk - “HIPKIN Thomas Arthur of Orchard Cottage Bridgham Norwich died 2 March 1971 Administration (with Will) Ipswich 29 June. £4595.”
